Oracy
At Sandhill, we recognise the power of talk! We want to offer all of our children a high-quality oracy education, where students learn both to talk and through talk, deepening their subject knowledge and understanding through classroom talk which has been planned, structured, and scaffolded to enable students to learn skills needed to talk effectively.
We offer this through two strands:
'Talk For Life' - where children are encouraged to speak openly about their thoughts and feelings and supported / taught how to overcome negative emotions.
'Talk for Learning' - High quality oracy opportunities planned in to all lessons to encourage children to share their thoughts and ideas on subjects, giving chance to reason and explain the outcomes they have reached.

Talk for Life
To ensure that children have the oracy vocabulary and skills to articulate their thoughts and feelings and prepare them to communicate effectively in their life beyond Year 6.
Talk for Learning
To underpin school’s curriculum with a progressive oracy and vocabulary strategy to enhance language acquisition, spoken language skills and improve reading and writing standards.
Universally Speaking & What's Typical Talk At Primary School?
Language development in the primary years steadily builds on the solid foundations that are established during the early years. Children’s attention, listening, understanding, vocabulary, speech, grammar, storytelling and conversations all develop further in terms of skills, knowledge and complexity.
